The Widow and the Sheep
| A poor Widow had a solitary Sheep due to be sheared. |
| Wishing to avoid any expense, the Widow sheared him herself but used shears so poor that she badly sheared the flesh as well. |
| The Sheep in great distress and pain did cry out and say thus: Why do you hurt me so, Mistress? |
| For what weight can my blood add to the wool? |
| If you want my flesh, there is the butcher, who will kill me in an instant. |
| But if you want my fleece and wool, there is the shearer, who will shear and not hurt me. |
