Book 5 – The First Law

6   First Law of Sanctuary

1This be the First Law of Sanctuary:
2Sanctuary be consecrated and sacred place.
3Places be made sacred and sanctuary,
4By sacred intentions and sacred acts.
5There be two important forms of sanctuary,
6The first be the space occupied by a man or woman,
7Who stands in true honor before First Law.
8Such a sacred and holy sanctuary must not be violated.
9Any man or woman who defiles and dishonors such sanctuary,
10Defiles and dishonors First Law,
11And injures their own spirit,
12And the spirit of their community.
13This is why an honorable man or woman must not be killed,
14As they will kill themselves if they have transgressed,
15And if the law demands it.
16But a man or woman who possesses no honor, has no sanctuary,
17Such a man or woman cannot claim sanctuary.
18The second form of sanctuary be places of land or water in country.
19Sanctuary of country is most important and must not be violated.
20The sacredness of sanctuary is the sacred of all holy places.
21A people who respect nothing of sacredness,
22Have no culture or law.
23A People who defile sanctuary,
24Curse their own spirit and set themselves alone.
25A man or woman who deliberately damages sanctuary,
26Can never be a custodian of land or country.
