The King and the Burden

A great King one day ordered: I wish to reward the most deserving of the kingdom.
So an invitation was sent out to all people, of all types to come to his kingdom.
But some distance from the gates, the King then ordered his men to place a huge rock as an obstacle upon the main path.
The King then hid himself as a peasant to observe the reaction to such obstacle.
Many of the wealthiest of merchants upon seeing the burden, surrendered and turned back from whence they came.
Others, simply skirted around the burden and continued upon they way, leaving their friends and family behind.
Finally, almost upon dusk a peasant carrying a cart of vegetables came to the huge rock obstructing the path.
He called upon the melee of people to assist him, yet none did except the King dressed as a fellow peasant.
So finally, the King and the peasant farmer removed the rock to reveal a purse of gold coins.
Before the reward could be snatched from the peasant by greedy onlookers, the King revealed himself and said thus:
Verily, my most trusted of lords and merchants did surrender or fail to address this burden, but you.
Behold! Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.
