5   The Great Circle of Moiety

1This be the Law and Circle of Moiety:
2Moiety be the equal division of community and tribe,
3According to connection to Country and to all forms of life,
4And this be also known as the Law of Skin name.
5Moiety be the recognition that all men and women have kin,
6Not only in family, but in skin name;
7Not only in skin name, but with specific species of country;
8Not only with specific species of country, but with whole of country.
9Skin recognizes the binding of the spirit to country,
10And to species of country.
11Skin recognizes the obligations of each man and woman to country,
12And as good custodians of plant and animal of country.
13Moiety be the inheritance of rights, of purpose, of skill and place.
14It be the obligations to community and country.
15The Law and Circle of Moiety be connected to all other Great Circles of Law,
16Connected by all past, present and future actions of spirit in form,
17To the Great Circle of Language, of Ceremony and of Family.
18When a female child is borne,
19She inherits the skin name of her mother and skin sisters;
20So a girl child can never be an orphan, nor abandoned to special place,
21And connection to country and all species of country.
22When a male child is borne,
23He inherits the skin name of his father and skin brothers;
24So a boy child can never be an orphan, nor abandoned to special place,
25And connection to country and all species of country.
26This is the name which binds the child to the law of country,
27And to right ceremony;
28And so with right ceremony to right dreaming.
29A man or woman without a skin name has no connection to country or dreaming.
30When a boy has proven himself and his skills,
31He is given a secret name by the elders.
32But if a boy show exceptional spirit of different skin,
33He may also be initiated into different skin name and skin dreaming.
34If a girl show exceptional ability and special skills,
35She may also be initiated into different skin name and skin dreaming.
36Women of the same skin name and moiety we call “sister”;
37Men from the same skin name and moiety we call “brother”;
38Older men of the same moiety as teachers we call “uncle”;
39Older women of the same moiety as teachers we call “aunty”.
40Any law that dishonors such law cannot be law.
